For the second consecutive year, Information Security Group (ISG) named Trustwave a Rising Star in Managed Security Services (MSS) for U.S. Large Accounts and for the first time as a Leader in MSS for U.S. Midmarket in its 2023 Provider Lens™ Quadrant Report.

ISG recognized Trustwave for its holistic offering with enhanced visibility, continuous threat monitoring and hunting, and its elite partnerships.

ISG’s report evaluates strengths, challenges, and competitive differentiators across cybersecurity providers and solutions and serves as a resource for IT decision-makers tasked with improving the cyber resilience of their organizations.

"Trustwave’s MSS offerings uniquely address the cyber resilience demands of mid-market and large enterprises, across varying levels of security maturity. Enterprises gain from Trustwave’s consultative approach and expertise in threat intelligence powered by Trustwave Fusion platform and talented experts with experience in delivering business-aligned outcomes,” said Gowtham Kumar, Lead Analyst; ISG Inc. “Trustwave invests in advanced and deep threat-hunting capabilities crafting a holistic end-to-end security portfolio that effectively addresses security risk for enterprises."

In 2022, ISG recognized Trustwave as a Rising Star in Managed Security Services for Large Accounts in its recently released Provider Lens™ Quadrant Report on Cybersecurity Solutions & Services report.

In ISG’s most recent report, the analyst firm noted three points that helped separate Trustwave from its competitors within the MSS market:

  • Holistic Offering for Enhanced Visibility: Trustwave's cloud-native Fusion platform-based Managed Detection and Response (MDR) solution is highly capable and mature, using bidirectional APIs to perform real-time threat detection, investigation and response, as well as providing robust threat hunting that leverages the leading EDR/XDR and other critical security controls to produce client outcomes.
  • Continuous Threat Monitoring and Hunting: Trustwave SpiderLabs Advanced Continual Threat Hunting (ACTH) services can effectively determine the presence of threat actors in a client’s IT environment. In addition, ACTH prevents cyber incidents by finding and alerting security personnel to vulnerabilities or weaknesses before an attacker can act. ACTH helps enterprises uncover hidden and persistent threats while maximizing their investment value by focusing on active threats that impact business.
  • Elite Partnerships: Trustwave has invested in extending strategic technology partnership with Microsoft gaining multiple exclusive credentials, elite competencies, and accreditations. Besides, Microsoft, its partnership with Trellix XDR, combined with Trustwave threat intelligence, and context from customers’ security infrastructure, will help enterprises detect threats in real-time, hunt for emerging threats at the endpoint, and it initiates response actions to quickly eliminate them.

ISG is a leading global technology research and advisory firm committed to helping corporations, public sector organizations, and service and technology providers achieve operational excellence and faster growth.

ISG Perspective: The Need for MSS

In the report, the analyst firm broke down the 2022 threat environment noting a decrease in the number of data breaches, but that threat actors had become more sophisticated and capable of delivering more severe attacks forcing organizations to make security decisions to remain safe.

“In 2022 enterprises increased their investment in cybersecurity and prioritized relevant initiatives to prevent attacks and improve their security posture. The continued learnings from the 2021 attacks led to executives and businesses of all sizes and across industries investing in measures to respond to and survive cybersecurity threats and cyberattacks,” ISG noted.

These decisions were obvious not only to larger organizations, but attacker activity forced smaller entities to see the advantage managed security services would provide.

“Even small businesses understood the impact of cyberthreats and realized that they are actively targeted and are highly vulnerable to cyberattacks,” the report stated. “This reinforced the need for (managed) security services and cyber resiliency services that would enable businesses to recover and resume operations quickly after a cyber incident. Service providers and vendors are, therefore, offering services and solutions that help in recovery and business continuity.”

Cybercriminals Up Their Game

The reason why small, medium and large businesses are looking toward managed services is because threat actors are sharpening their skills. 2022 saw threat groups exploiting large-scale vulnerabilities, such as Log4shell, and continued using ransomware to disrupt business activities, specifically targeting healthcare, supply chain and public sector services.

These types of attacks prompted businesses to invest in new capabilities such as identity and access management (IAM), managed detection and response (MDR) and securing cloud and endpoints.

In addition, ISG sees the market is shifting toward integrated solutions, such as security service edge (SSE) and extended detection and response (XDR), which leverage the best tools and human expertise and are augmented with behavioral and contextual intelligence and automation to deliver a superior security posture.
