Participating in Locked Shields 2024, the largest and most complex international live-fire cyber defense exercise in the world, has been a monumental experience for VMRay. Organized annually by the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE) since 2010, Locked Shields brings together national cyber defenders to practice protecting national civilian and military IT systems, critical infrastructure, and crisis-handling processes under intense pressure. This year’s exercise, held from April 24-26, was a true testament to international collaboration and the collective effort to enhance cyber resilience.
Events like Locked Shields are crucial in improving cyber resilience on a global scale. With over 4000 experts from more than 40 nations participating, this real-time network defense exercise provides a unique platform for both technical and non-technical personnel to engage in high-pressure scenarios. By simulating sophisticated cyberattacks, Locked Shields allows participants to test and refine their strategies, ensuring they are better prepared to protect critical infrastructure and respond to real-world incidents.
For government organizations, especially military entities, cybersecurity is paramount. Locked Shields 2024 highlighted several critical topics, including the protection of cyber physical and military systems, strategic decision making, and incident reporting. Participants faced challenges across a diverse range of systems, including power systems, tactical VOIP systems, satellite simulations, and even AI-enhanced platforms. This comprehensive approach underscores the importance of having robust and versatile cyber defense strategies to tackle the evolving threats faced by national and international security infrastructures.
Our participation in Locked Shields aligns perfectly with VMRay’s mission to enhance cybersecurity through innovation and collaboration. VMRay’s cutting-edge technologies and expertise in advanced threat detection were instrumental in supporting a Blue Team. We are proud of the fact that we could support our team to be one of the three highest-scoring teams of Locked Shield 2024.
Carsten Willems, CEO of VMRay, expressed our gratitude and enthusiasm for being part of Locked Shields 2024: “We are honored to have participated in Locked Shields 2024 and to contribute to the cybersecurity community. This exercise is a remarkable opportunity for us to share our expertise and collaborate with other global leaders in cyber defense. At VMRay, we are dedicated to advancing security against unknown, evasive, and sophisticated malware and phishing threats through continuous innovation and cooperation, and events like Locked Shields are vital in achieving our mission.”
Locked Shields 2024 has been an incredible opportunity for VMRay to engage with the global cybersecurity community and to demonstrate our commitment to enhancing cyber resilience. Through our participation, we have not only contributed to the defense efforts of numerous nations but also reinforced our dedication to developing cutting-edge solutions that address the most pressing cybersecurity challenges. As we continue to innovate and collaborate, we remain steadfast in our mission to protect the digital landscape and support the cyber defense initiatives of governments and organizations worldwide.
By participating in Locked Shields, VMRay has once again proven its role as a key player in the cybersecurity field, helping to build a safer and more resilient digital future for all.
