Welcome to the “Life in the Swimlane” blog series. Here we will feature interviews with Swimlaners to learn more about their experience. This series will give you a preview of Swimlane, our culture, and the people who keep us going.
Hi, I’m Dylan Dartnell. I grew up in the Mid-Atlantic Region on the East Coast. I studied Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Delaware, and started my career in cybersecurity in 2012. Eight years ago, I moved to Colorado, where I met my wife, Valerie. We got married in Fiji last year and are now settled in Broomfield. You can find us spending our free time snowboarding, hiking in the mountains, or catching local music.
I just started a couple of weeks ago, but I’m no stranger to Swimlane! I’m coming from Phoenix Cyber, a Swimlane Professional Services Partner, where I spent the past three years working with Swimlane solutions and representing the team. So, while I’m new as a Swimlaner, I’ve been a part of the journey for a while now. My role in Professional Services is all about helping our clients make the most of Swimlane. I work closely with clients to build custom solutions and guide them through setup, configurations, and optimizations- bringing a friendly, technical presence to each session. It’s all about ensuring they feel supported and empowered to get the most value from our platform
The people and the collaborative spirit. Everyone’s eager to share knowledge and support each other- which makes even the toughest challenges feel manageable!
I’m a huge nerd, so I really see my work at Swimlane as a kind of game—constantly finding the best ways to optimize our platform and craft custom solutions that truly click for each client. It’s about creating something meaningful and watching it make a difference
When I’m not working, I love getting outdoors. We’re based in Colorado, so we spend a lot of time exploring the mountains. I’m also a musician, so I spend a lot of my free time experimenting with music and recording with friends. And, of course, I always enjoy diving into side projects or experimenting with new tech.
I’m passionate about teaching music to kids. I’ve had the chance to help out with local teaching programs like ‘Boredom Fighters’ and at school events where we show kids the ins and outs of music production. It’s a fun way to combine teaching, technology, and music, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see their excitement when they create something of their own.
I spent my high school and university years dedicated to the sport of rowing. In 2011, I had the incredible opportunity to represent the USA internationally, bringing home the gold!
“Arête” is a Greek concept that has always resonated deeply with me. It’s all about striving for excellence in everything you do—not just in skills or achievements, but in character and integrity. Not really a motto, but it reminds me to bring my best self to every challenge and aim for my highest potential.
Passionate, Dynamic, Curious.
Honest and Integrity in ‘all the Things’
I want to bridge the gap between human needs and technological advancements, finding that ‘sweet spot’ where technology solves real-world challenges.
Swimlane is a rapidly growing, innovative startup in the Denver metro area with a passionate team focused on improving the lives of security practitioners through security automation and orchestration. We’re always looking for dedicated, ambitious problem solvers who thrive in a fast-paced work environment to join our team.
