I have the CompTIA trio (A,Net,Sec)+ alongside Linux+, I’ve been working as a sys/sec admin for a couple of years and I’ve learned a lot. I was going through hackthebox’s CPTS training when I learned that the schooling and honestly comptia exams that I completed didn’t fully prepare me for what I wanted to do. After which I just switched to the SOC analyst path as it provided more in depth training on the job that I was actually doing.

I’ve since completed that and competed in a couple of CTFS and while reading walkthroughs and watching videos afterwards discovered that there are a lot of people/teams that are able to script their own solutions. For me that is the skill set that I would prefer to have and since then I’ve been working on 100 days of code through Udemy as I didn’t have any real programming knowledge or training throughout school. Would anyone recommend completing the 100 days program?

I know that it focuses more on python programming and full stack development, which I think would help me in the long run. But considering that for me it generally takes a while to figure things out and the fact that my admin work is pretty time consuming I’m wondering should just spend more time on just practicing straight hacking? Or should I implement a method of learning on the fly opposed to dedicating all of my time to learning how to program to then go back to Red Team/Pentesting training. Also I do know that these are two different professions.

TL;DR I’m learning full stack python development from scratch right now. Should I finish doing that so I can analyze code and reverse it better or should I just keep focusing on hacker related trainings and learn programming as I go?
