I am wanting to get in to canbus sniffing and then potentially making some canbus automotive devices.

One of the first projects i'd love to do is basically active a relay based on a series of canbus commands such as sequence of events being done like pressing up/down/down/up - when the sequence is "heard" with in a period of time it activates a relay.

The relay can then be used to essentially enable the start stop button - basically an anti theft device.

This project is not essential, but it's just a bit of a starting point.

ive done lots of research and lots of videos exist but some are 5-6 years old and i dont know what is out there now a days.

I am firstly looking in to some sort of usb can sniffer device that can rx/tx that can enable me to listen and send basic comands back to the car such as open the window etc.

and then id love to get on to making a canbus device that can be left plugged in with its own microprocessor.

I came across a milage faker a while back on youtube that was quite interesting, it essentially just gave the wrong milage to the cluster. The device was more of a man in the middle connection but i was more intrigued on the PCB - it had a mcp2515 and some form of stm32 i think it was to send messages - but then a microprocessor to store programing code . this is what i'd love to get to at one point but are there already devices out there you can pick up and program how you see fit or are these typically designed from scratch?
